Lead Singer Of Band The Prodigy Keith Flint Passes Away At 49

The singer who is known for his distinct hairdo and intense stage presence sang hits such as 'Firestarter' and 'Breathe'. 

Lead singer of The Prodigy, Keith Flint, was found unresponsive at his home on Monday, March 4. The singer reportedly committed suicide at the age of 49, shortly before a U.S tour. The Prodigy was a widely successful electronic rock band that was the most successful act of the 1980s acid-house scene. The singer who is known for his distinct hairdo sang hits such as 'Firestarter' and 'Breathe'. 




Flint was found in his country home located in Dunmow, Essex, England. According to authorities, they were alerted to pay the 49-year-old after concerns for his welfare were raised. When they arrived, the authorities found him unresponsive. Despite the paramedics' efforts, they were unable to revive the singer. Flint's death was ruled as 'not suspicious', but authorities did not comment any further till the reports come back from the coroner. 




The Prodigy was recently on an Australian tour and was due to play in Austria and Colombia in April, before they headed for their U.S tour, which was set to start in May. The band also had two show dates booked at New York's Terminal 5. The band's schedule boasted other tours at various European music festivals all through the summer, which included London's South West Four as well as Spain's Doctor Music Festival. 




The band shared the passing of their lead singer on their official website as well as on Twitter. The statement read: "It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint. A true pioneer, innovator, and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time"






But Flint's death has been confirmed as a suicide after his bandmate Liam Howlett posted a picture of the lead singer, confirming the crushing news. Posting an image of Flint in his true element, Howlett wrote: "I can't believe I’m saying this but our brother Keith took his own life over the weekend. I’m shell-shocked, angry, confused and [heartbroken]. R.I.P. brother."




Other artists were also equally shocked at the lead singer's passing. James Blunt paid his respects to Flint's passing by remembering his good heart and genuineness, recalling how he was the only established artist who recognized his success. In fact, a lot of artists came forward with their out testaments of the singer's genuine kindness. Many others recognized his influence on British music culture, calling him a 'Titan' of the industry. 




The Prodigy began after Flint met future bandmate Howlett at a rave party. Immediately impressed with Howlett's DJ work, Flint also urged Howlett to play his own mixtapes. Flint danced to the tracks with his friend and future fellow bandmate Leeroy Thornhill. Later on, Flint adopted a whacky punk hairstyle and became a singer for the band. The Prodigy derived their name from a synthesizer brand that was favored by Howlett.





Apart from being a widely recognize singer, Flint was also an avid racing fan. He also had invested in a local pub. The lead singer is mostly remembered for his unforgettable stage presence and his very distinct hairstyles.
