This is a stellar example of an experiment gone awfully wrong. The owner faced severe backlash after she put up her concerns on social media.
We've all heard of animal cruelty. But, this one might just break your heart. A dog's ear fell off after its owner dyed them red. Yes, you read that right. The owner faced a severe backlash with many people terming her 'irresponsible'. The dog, Diffy, belonging to the Pomeranian breed, was taken to a grooming salon in Hua Hin, eastern Thailand by his owner. It is said that the owner wanted to dye the dog's ears and tail. And, she chose red as the color.
But, soon after the procedure, the owner noticed Diffy's ears drooping. She thought it would come back to its original shape after a while. By the way, the poor pooch was subjected to a foil wrap dye on his soft blonde fur for around 40 minutes. The owner started to notice her pet's ears burning up after a suspected allergic reaction to the chemicals in the dye.
In a few hours, the dog started to suffer from itchy skin which flaked off, leaving his owner anxious. She posted online asking for help, though she did not reveal her identity. She wrote, "Before the dye, my dog’s ears were up. But after I went to the pet store and the dog stylist colored his ear with aluminum foil for 40 minutes without heat, I took him home and his ears turned out like this."
"They were folded down. The stylist said that I have to wait for two or three days and his ears will recover. Has anybody experienced this before?" she added. Some pet owners responded to the post with advice saying they had their pets had gone through the same procedure. Others called her actions irresponsible.
After the first post, Diffy's owner posted another update regarding the severity of the dye and saying that her dog's left ear was so badly damaged that it fell off. The anonymous owner wrote, "Diffy’s left ear is now falling off because of the color dye. The pet groomer put too much dye on him."
"My dog’s ear was itchy, burnt, turned black, cracked, and eventually fell off. I don’t blame the grooming store but I blame myself for wanting to have his ears dyed," she continued. It's quite tragic that Diffy's ears were so badly affected that one of them fell off on February 6.

The pictures of the damaged ears were shared online, with many pet owners, vets and animal charities slamming the owner for her apparent carelessness and irresponsibility in putting a dog through so much pain. Neeyada Sirisampandh who runs the dog rescue group called Mid Road Lover in Bangkok said, "Let this be a lesson to other dog owners. It is dangerous to dye your puppy’s fur. This dog’s ear looks like it suffered an allergic reaction and was burned. Then it fell off. Her ear is gone forever. It’s all the owner’s fault for trying to color them."

One said, "I feel sorry for the dog. They are not strong enough to endure all situations and can be easily harmed. I don't understand why the owner would put them through this suffering. Another wrote: 'This is just a fashion to make the dog owner happy. It's irresponsible and they should take care of their pet better." A third said, "Dogs are not unicorns. Dog lovers should know that dying is very dangerous to them. Aren't all dog owners aware of this? Apparently, she hasn't done any research and I bet the grooming is using a human dying color, which is worse."
